DAY 15

Voice Culture

The day began earlier than usual with the familiar "Head-to-Toe" warm-up led by Anil, energizing participants for the activities ahead. This was followed by a memory-enhancing game, where each participant said their name, and the next person repeated all previous names before adding their own. The exercise sharpened memory and focus, setting a fun yet engaging tone for the day.

Rangaswamy Sir continued the voice culture session from the previous day:

  • The session began with a breathing exercise: inhale for 5 seconds, hold for 3 seconds, and exhale for 10 seconds while generating sound. This was repeated with lip vibrations and varying pitch levels—low to high, high to low, and alternating patterns.

  • Participants practiced speaking through their noses individually, refining vocal techniques.

Sir introduced two challenging Kannada tongue twisters, focusing on pronunciation and clarity:

  • Ashwataralimarbudasididoded Yelenteleyaaytu

  • Aval Aral Alede Kolagadol Ivalla Aral Alede Alede.

Although difficult, the activity greatly improved diction and articulation.

Participants then enacted dual-character scenarios, emphasizing tone and voice modulation, including:

  • A doctor and patient

  • A just-engaged couple

  • A drunkard and his wife

The session concluded with Rangaswamy Sir delivering a brief but impactful talk on the significance of voice culture in theatre.

After a two-day break, Shreedhar Anna resumed the voice exercises.

  • Participants practiced new shlokas, further expanding their vocal range and rhythm.

  • The session ended with a group rehearsal of the Rangageethe taught by Rajguru Sir, uniting everyone in harmonious practice.

  • The day concluded with the signature group dispersal, leaving participants energized and ready for the next sessions.
