On February 7, 2024, The National College, Autonomous, Jayanagar performed the play Miss Sadarame at the Sourabha 2024 State Level Inter-College Theatre Competition, directed by Harish Rudraiah and written by K V Subbanna. The play is an adaptation of the classic drama Sadarame, originally penned by Bellave Narahari Shastry, and reimagined by Subbanna with a modern twist.
The story follows Sadarame, an innocent middle-class girl, who embarks on a series of adventures driven by her desire to maintain her integrity in a world full of deception and greed. The prince falls in love with her, but circumstances lead her into a complex series of events where she has to outwit cunning characters. Through her journey, the play presents a humorous yet sharp critique of social norms, class structures, and gender roles. Subbanna’s version adds depth to the character of Sadarame, making her a symbol of resilience, wit, and strength in a patriarchal society.
