On February 5, 2024, The National College, Autonomous, Basavanagudi performed the play Durgasthamaana at the Sourabha 2024 State Level Inter-College Theatre Competition, directed by Ravikumar and written by T. R. Subbarao (TaRaSu). Durgasthamaana is a historical drama based on the fall of the Nayaka dynasty of Chitradurga, focusing on the life of its last ruler, Madakari Nayaka V.
The play depicts the tragic downfall of Chitradurga, an important fort city, as it comes under siege by the forces of Haider Ali in the late 18th century. The narrative highlights themes of loyalty, bravery, and resistance, showcasing Madakari Nayaka's valiant efforts to defend his kingdom against overwhelming odds. TaRaSu’s work is not only a tale of heroism but also an exploration of the vulnerability of power and the consequences of imperial ambition. Through this historical retelling, the play sheds light on the socio-political struggles and the enduring human spirit in the face of adversity.
